Canatu is seeking an energetic and competent professional to become our

Chief Engineer, Production Technology Development

to lead the development and scale up our nanocarbon thin film production tool to mass production volumes.

Canatu has developed a unique nanocarbon material, Carbon NanoBud® (CNB), and a manufacturing process based on Floating Catalyst Chemical Vapor Deposition. Canatu’s automated CNB production tool consists of CNB synthesis reactors, a roll-to-roll substrate and liner handling line, a robotic system, coating and film treatment systems, and test and measurement instruments.

Canatu is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the development and verification of next generation CNB production tools for CNB film mass manufacturing. The position is located in Helsinki, Finland. You will play a key role in ensuring that Canatu can produce high quality CNB films at high volumes in a scalable, cost effective manner.


  • Lead the development and design of CNB synthesis reactors in cooperation with R&D and Production
  • Lead the development and industrialization of a high volume CNB production process and production tool, including the related support equipment
  • Develop and improve CNB production tool system architecture, including functional, mechanical, electrical, gas handling, and control logic/SW systems
  • Drive continuous improvement of our mass production CNB tool for higher throughput, lower cost and higher yield
  • Depending on your qualification, you may also manage a team of equipment and process engineers


Must have:

  • At least 10 years production tool and process development experience in thin film, semiconductor, nanotechnology, display or comparable industry segment.
  • Proven track record of building mass production equipment with vacuum and/or gas flow systems and components.
  • Experience with hazardous gas handling, heating systems and ovens.
  • Experience with industrial control and automation systems.
  • Experience in professional documentation, and working with external partners and suppliers

Nice to have:

  • Working experience with thin film coating processes. A good background would be experience in developing thin film coating equipment such as CVD, MOCVD, LPCVD, PECVD, ALD, PVD.
  • Familiarity with inspection and test equipment.
  • Experience with gas and vacuum simulation and design software.
  • Working experience with roll-to-roll processes and printing in clean room environment.
  • BSc or MSc or some other similar degree or higher, e.g. in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
