Headlamp heaters
LED headlamps are far more energy-efficient compared to their older halogen counterparts. However, their rise in popularity poses a new challenge as LEDs do not generate sufficient heat to de-ice the lens in harsh weather. With efficient and even heating, high optical performance and robust integration by film insert molding, Canatu LED headlamp heaters are an optimal solution to prevent headlight obstruction and mitigate safety risks.
Headlamp heaters that mitigate visibility and safety risks in any weather
Unlike traditional halogens, LEDs do not generate enough heat to melt the snow and ice off the headlight. Snow and ice can stick to the headlights, obstructing the light beam. Canatu film heaters keep headlights clear in any weather.
Canatu film heaters are wire-free in front of the light beam and in-lamp integrated sensors. They can be thermoformed or high-pressure formed into any 3D shape, and in-molded inside the polycarbonate lens to obtain high resistance against harsh weather.
Canatu film heaters are factory-installed. Retrofittable LED headlight heaters are currently not yet available.
Key benefits:
- Wire-free in front of the light beam and sensors
- High heating performance: fast, even, and power-efficient heating
- Design freedom: can be high-pressure- or thermoformed into any shape
- Robust: can be injection molded inside the PC lens

High optical performance
Canatu LED headlamp heaters are highly transparent, wire-free, and exhibit high optical clarity with no haze or distortion. This ensures that vehicle’s headlights maintain accurate beam form to light up the road as designed.

Even and efficient heating
Temperature gradients are a common challenge caused by wire heaters, where the wires heat up faster than the surrounding surface area, causing optical distortion. Unlike metal wire heaters, Canatu LED headlamp heaters are film based, which means the entire surface is conductive. This provides simultaneous and even heating throughout the surface with minimal temperature gradient.

In-molded for robustness
Canatu headlamp heaters are built on a polycarbonate (PC) substrate. Our heater can be Film Injection Molded (FIM) during the injection molding of the lens. This integrated structure provides a very high level of reliability.

Enabling ADAS system reliability in any weather
With the rise of autonomous driving and the increased use of active safety features, there is a greater need to ensure the consistent performance of sensors, cameras and LED lights in all weather conditions.
Due to their advantageous optical and mechanical properties, Canatu LED headlamp heaters are suitable even in headlamps that have embedded camera and LiDAR systems, effectively keeping all critical sensor surfaces clear. Such heater performance can be contrasted with that of the more traditional microwires, which not only interfere with such camera and LiDAR systems, but offer less design freedom due to the limitations of visible circuits.
