Canatu will join Optics and Photonics Days OPD2024, organized by Photonics Finland taking place May 28-30, 2024 in Helsinki. Juha Kokkonen, chief executive officer of Canatu will deliver a presentation titled ‘Enabling the next step in semiconductor productivity.’

The semiconductor industry is set to double by 2030, driven by global megatrends. The relentless pursuit towards smaller nodes, from 7nm to 3 nm, fuels progress. Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography drives advanced chip production, shrinking node sizes and power consumption to power our modern world.
A key challenge in EUV lithography is the risk of printing defects due to tiny particles. EUV pellicles provide the solution, filtering nano-scale particles that would otherwise land on the mask and be printed on the wafer, causing damage on the chips.
Canatu groundbreaking carbon nanotube (Canatu CNT) EUV pellicles address this challenge, offering a 15% performance boost (wafers per hour) over conventional EUV pellicles.
Canatu’s advanced CNT membranes, renowned for the unique properties, are ideal for demanding EUV and optical filter applications. Mass production of these membranes began in 2021. Canatu operates through two business models: in-house production and technology licensing. It increasingly sells manufacturing equipment so that customers can make membranes themselves.
Juha Kokkonen assumed the role of CEO at Canatu in 2016. Under Juha’s leadership, Canatu has successfully conducted three significant investment rounds and negotiated numerous strategic partnerships, including a notable licensing agreement with DENSO. Prior Canatu, Juha held multiple leadership positions at Nokia and Microsoft, including General Manager of Windows Phones and Vice President of Lumia Products. With strong experience in product development, innovation, and business management, Juha has a solid track record of bringing high-tech innovations to market. Juha holds an MSc degree in Technology, with a focus on Engineering, Industrial Management, and Computer Science, from the University of Oulu.
