CES 2025
Canatu, (CANATU, Nasdaq First North, Finland), a deep technology company creating advanced carbon nanotubes (Canatu CNTs), related products, and manufacturing equipment for the semiconductor, automotive, and medical diagnostics industries, will be exhibiting at CES 2025, the world’s most powerful tech event, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 7-10, 2025.
Visit Canatu at West Hall, Booth 4166 to explore its advanced film heater products designed for LiDAR and camera sensor de-icing and anti-fogging, enabling autonomous driving in any weather.
Canatu film heaters offer the following key advantages:
- Keeps sensors clear in harsh weather.
- Even and power-efficient heating
- High transmittance and wire-free
- 3D formable and in-moldable
- Automotive-grade reliable
Showcase highlights
At CES, Canatu will partner with industry forerunners to showcase joint developments that enhance driving safety and comfort.
Canatu and Webasto will showcase the Webasto Roof Sensor Module (RSM) demonstrator, which features a fixed Canatu film heater to enhance the reliability of ADAS in harsh weather, making autonomous driving safer. The RSM allows automotive manufacturers to integrate several sensors and sensor availability functions into the roof of vehicles in a lean and easy way. The all-around view and elevated positioning at the highest point of the car are ideal, especially for LiDAR, as they enable optimum object detection also in long-range and maximum data-collection for 3D mapping of the environment. Overmolding Canatu’s film heater is a very cost-efficient way to seamlessly integrate the required de-icing and anti-fogging function into the 3D-shaped cover and ensuring reliable sensor performance in harsh weather conditions.
The key benefits:
- High optical performance: Transparent and wire-free, minimizing optical distortion.
- High heating performance: Provides fast, even, and power-efficient heating across the entire surface.
- Seamless integration into the RSM cover by film insert molding (FIM) without compromising design integrity.
The resulting component is strong, lightweight, LiDAR permeable, and wire-free in the sensor’s field of view, ensuring reliable sensor performance for autonomous driving even in harsh weather conditions.
Canatu and DENSO will showcase a windshield camera heater demonstrator in which the Canatu film heater is laminated onto the inner surface of the windshield using Optically Clear Adhesive (OCA). The film heater can be assembled at a glass supplier or added later. This solution is also ideal for retrofitting as it can be easily repaired without replacing the entire windshield.
The key features:
- Energy-efficient: DENSO’s unique technology offers optimized temperature distribution and minimized energy loss, utilizing approx. 40% less energy compared to wire-heaters with the same defogging and de-icing time in -30°C.
- High optical performance: DENSO’s technology maximizes the optical benefits of Canatu CNT and enables easy integration in existing ADAS camera systems.
- Easy integration on any glass: DENSO’s original OCA and process provide integration flexibility on any glass from any supplier without major modifications to the glass manufacturing process.
Canatu and Covestro will present a joint demonstrator for a LiDAR heater. The Canatu film heater is fabricated onto the Covestro Makrofol® polycarbonate film. The LiDAR cover is produced using film insert molding with Makrolon® resin.
The key features:
- High LiDAR transmittance: Canatu transparent heaters exhibit high transmittance for near-infrared wavelengths.
- Superior heating performance: Canatu’s film heater is a wire-free thin film heater, providing an undistorted field of view (FOV) for the laser beam to create an accurate mapping of the surroundings, advancing autonomous driving in any weather.
- Excellent processing capabilities: Canatu’s film heater technology offers ‘production-ready’ integration of LiDAR sensors into front modules.
